TAHS was organized in Southern California, 2013–2014. We keep both dates deliberately: a founding member's memoir records that founding president Charles Yang (楊嘉猷) convened the society in summer 2013 with it formally established by year's end, while a December 2014 letter describes the society as then being organized. The archive holds both sources side by side rather than forcing one year — the same discipline we apply to every entry in Echopedia.
The founders were elders of the Taiwanese American diaspora — engineers, physicians, publishers — who had spent decades building community institutions and wanted the record kept: interviews with pioneers, memorial services, lectures, exhibitions, and published profiles.
The society has published two volumes of 台美人菁英錄 (Taiwanese American Profiles) — collected interviews and biographical essays centered on the first generation — and in 2025 the board adopted a program to collect, interview, and publish second- and third-generation figures. See the 2023 TAHS Publication entry in Echopedia.
Our flagship public offering: a free, bilingual, source-noted wiki of Taiwanese American people, organizations, congregations, and events — 15,000+ entries across people, organizations, works, and sources, each with verification notes. 我們的公開代表作:免費、雙語、附出處與查證註記的台美人人物、組織、教會與事件百科。
Disambiguation. TAHS is not the Taiwan Center (台灣會館), and not the Taiwanese American History Foundation (台美史料中心, taiwaneseamericanhistory.org). The older site tahistory.org is a legacy host of record, not this organization's current site. 台美人歷史協會不是台灣會館,也不是台美史料中心(taiwaneseamericanhistory.org)。舊站 tahistory.org 是歷史網站,不是本會現行網站。
